For me, Evernote is perhaps the greatest all-purpose gamer aid ever developed. As an electronic notebook, it’s unparalleled.
I previously talked about how great Evernote is and how for me it’s an indispensable organisational tool. Being organised is one of the characteristics of a great gamers. As a player, you can achieve so much in Evernote.
The first thing you should do is create a new tag for the adventure or campaign you are playing. Using that tag with everything I list below makes it easy to find what you are looking for quickly and easily.
Store Your Character
Forgot your character sheet? No problem, it’s in Evernote! You can store your character in several different ways. You can:
- Take a photo of your character sheet and store it in a note
- Store a PDF of your character sheet in a note
- You can type your character’s basic details into a note
- Keep your character’s background information, personality and so on
- Store your character’s shopping list
Store Session Information
Are you always trying to keep track of various bits of paper in your character folder? Do you always misplace stuff? Instead, simple store all the information in Evernote. You can:
- Keep a list of important NPCs
- Note the details (and reward) of the quest you are on
- Keep a list of found/liberated loot
Store Commonly Used Rule Items
Referencing things in Evernote is often quicker than looking through a bulky rulebook. You can store:
- Descriptions of spells, skills and feats your character uses frequently
- Descriptions of magic item your character possesses
- Write-ups or cheat sheets for lesser known rules (for example, Mounted Combat or grapple) you or the group use frequently
Store GM Friendly Stuff
Sometimes, storing stuff in Evernote helps your GM out. Even better, with just a couple of clicks you can share the relevant note(s) with your GM. You can:
- Take a photo of the battle matt and initiative board at the end of the session (particularly if you finish mid-combat)
- Write up a session summary
