At the end of last session, we left our heroes locked in battle with a cadre of mummies and their implacable undead master.
The fight raged on.
Cortana, Helanda and Shiyara kept a small group of the foul creatures caught in a sleet storm from outflanking the party. Meanwhile, deeper into the complex the rest of the party fought the mummies’ foul master—Kandamereus.
Emboldened, Makani leapt over his opponent’s antilife shell, landing behind the creature. He also found that the freedom of movement cast on him earlier allowed him to penetrate the barrier. Kandamereus, replied with a slay living, that almost ripped the life from the brave rogue.
The rest of the party rushed to help, but until Vesleng—transformed into an earth elemental breached and destroyed the barrier—they could do little.

A few minutes later, Cortana and his friends managed to destroy the last of the other “normal” mummies attacking the party’s flank.
The danger was not passed. Several of the party had been struck by the mummies. Luckily only Vesleng succumbed to the mummies’ terrible, pernicious curse. Cortana, using his divine healing managed to stave off the first bout of mummy rot, but moments later it returned even stronger than before. Quickly, Ausk and Thaladan exhausted all their remaining curse-removing magics, but to no avail.
With no choice, Karelia teleported the druid and his companion back to Marner to receive the healing he so desperately needed. They would return later that night, Vesleng cured, but substantially poorer as the curse proved frustratingly difficult to remove.
Meanwhile, the rest of the party rested. Low on spells and exhausted they could go no further this day even though they calculated the ritual to open the Doomsday Door had but a day or two before completion. Time was running out.
Thaladan, however, using the Shard of Gluttony to divine the object of their quest—discovered the Shard of Envy lay excitingly close by…
