At the end of last session, we left our heroes in a perilous position fighting several monstrous water elementals.
As the fight raged on, the party retreated back into the first room to constrain the elementals’ attacks. Moments later, the elementals broke through Grooble’s perilously thin magical wall and began to renew their assault on the party. At that moment, a monstrously vast toad-like humanoid—identified as a hydradaemon appeared in the room behind the party and attacked Karelia! Luckily, she had just cloaked herself in a protection from evil and the creature could not rip her warm, succulent body to shreds. However, moments later another such creature appeared, and this one seemed able to breach her protections. As she tried to escape, it grabbed her forcing the struggling librarian to use a dimension door to reach her friends.
Now, the party was bottled up and while Thaladan managed to shut one door to keep the creatures at bay the water elementals fought on. Grooble brought another wall of stone into being—this time a much thicker wall blocking off the doorway leading to the river cavern.
With one avenue temporarily closed off, the party pushed in the other—determined to escape from the trap. Zainnis destroyed one of the hydradaemons with his cold iron arrows—but had only four remaining as Narfu chased the other one into a further room. There was a complicated interplay of magical light and darkness spells—for the creature had shrouded itself in powerful magical darkness—and then the party were upon it. Now suddenly outnumbered, the creature was forced to flee on the wings of some form of teleport spell.
Having driven off their attackers and now perilously low on resources, the party retreated to the library to rest and recuperate. Several were badly injured and others were keen to rest to they could reflect on their recent experiences. Four days passed…
