Over the weekend, something awesome happened at Raging Swan Press!
At the start of this month, we launched a Patreon campaign with the stated aim of being able to offer our freelance designers a better rate of pay. Well, just yesterday, our 22nd patron pledged enough to get us over our first milestone! That’s amazing and incredible all in one go, and something for which I’m incredibly grateful.
This means, as of now–for newly contracted work–Raging Swan Press can begin to triple (!) its word rate for freelance game designers. As I’ve posted on my blog, the economics of 3rd party publishing are pretty harsh. Small companies–if they want to survive–can’t afford to offer decent pay. Well, thanks to the incredible generosity of our patrons, Raging Swan Press has started its journey onwards and upwards.
At the moment, we’ve just staggered over our first milestone, but if we keep going eventually we’ll be able to offer our designers even better rates of pay! I’d love to pay 5 cents a word, but to do that lots of other people are going to have to join our merry band. (And if you know anyone who might fancy it, please let them know about us!)
In any event, thank you to everyone who has already joined, thought about joining or spread the word of our Patreon campaign. I’m grateful to each and every one of you.
