Borderland of Adventure #79: The Return

At the end of last session, we left the party digesting the news of who was behind the constant attacks on Ratik (according to the evil dragon, Vesicwyr).

Now they knew they faced a death knight, the party realised this information must be passed onto the Sword Lords, for such a foe was far beyond their capabilities. Deciding it was not prudent to attack Vesicwyr, the party decided to retreated to Ratik. By this time, the party was quite sizeable – our heroes having rescued many from the pirates of Deksport. Their last view of the pirate bastion was of a pall of smoke hanging over the town and thus it seemed the pirates would not pose a danger to shipping for many months to come.

In any event, after almost two week’s travel they once again reached Ratik’s easternmost border. However, where once stood Fangwood Keep, a lake had now formed. The keep’s second storey yet jutted above the surface, but otherwise the surrounding area was inundated. Ulmo wondered if somehow the waters filling much of the Night Realm (the strange demiplane they accessed from the keep’s cellars) had somehow leaked through. Bravely deciding not to investigate – for who knows what else could have come through the portal – the party continued west to White Moon Cove. From there, they took ship to Ratik’s capital, Marner.

This was a brave move on their part, for sahuagin attacks had become more frequent in the surrounding waters and their ship had to pass over the Sunken Pyramid – an underwater structure long spoken of in whispers by superstitious sailors. The water was particularly clear about the pyramid and as the ship passed over the structure the party could clearly see it not 30 ft. below the ship’s keel. They could also see a great profusion of sharks swimming in the surrounding waters – including one truly immense specimen. Any vague interest the party had of exploring the Sunken Pyramid died in that instant.

Without further incident, the party reached Marner and debarked into a a city in the throes of preparing for a royal wedding. With some difficulty they secured lodgings at a nearby inn and sought out Lord Nanther. One of the Sword Lords, Lord Nanther would no doubt know what to do and also had the influence and resources to combat the sinister threat posed by a death knight.

Gaining audience with Lord Nanther and his son (and their friend) Oreal Nanther the party explained what they had discovered. Lord Nather promised to discuss the matter with the whole Iron Council after the wedding, but in the meantime he asked them to keep the information secret so as not to sour the wedding (or cause a panic). With rewards in hand from a grateful Lord Nanther, the party relaxed for the first time in months and made use of all the facilities the capital city afforded them…

    1. We’ve taken a break to try out 5e. I am still posting updates, though as I’m transferring my old session summaries to this site. I recently uploaded #30: Slaughter & Death so if you haven’t caught up on our earlier adventures there’s still stuff to read!

  1. There needs to be a better way to follow the stories. I seem to have come to an end with #74 but here’s #79 (and I only found that from the Shattered Star intro!). The links at the bottom of the page often lead to other articles and then I have to keep going through them until I find the next installment I’m looking for.

I probably passed #s 75-78 in the past. Is there an easier way to find specific entries? Any way to collect all the parts of the stories and arrange them so we can read them all in a row?
