Skull & Shackles #19: Mortal Peril

At the end of the last session, we left our heroes plotting their next move after defeating a large war band of ferocious grindylow.

Resources were running low, but so was time—the Man’s Promise would be leaving the next morning whether the PCs were aboard or not. Compounding this, many of the party believed Rosie’s and Sandara’s time was running out. Surely, the grindylow would soon grow hungry!

Luckily, the party had captured one of the grindylow warparty and now put the survivor to the question. Led by Felik, who could speak their foul language, they ascertained the two captives were being held by the grindylow queen and her gigantic son (whose chamber could only be reached through the devilfish’s lair).

Having learnt some other nuggets of information that party despatched the grindylow with an ultimation—surrender the captives or die!

The party waited for a half-hour or so, but sadly the captives were not released. With heavy hearts, the heroes set out deeper into the caves. Quickly they conformed they must once again traverse the devilfish chamber as the queen’s chambers lay beyond—for the party had cleared the rest of the complex.

After plotting an attack plan, the heroes leapt into action only to discover the devilfish was busy eating Chomper’s body. Distracted, the foul aberration did not interfere with the party as they snuck passed.

Beyond the devilfish’s lair a seaweed choked passage led to the queen’s watery lair.

Sadly, the queen and her minions were ready for the party. The queen, behind her minions, was holding a rope which held Sandara and Rosie above the lair’s foul waters.

Kanbrar burst into the room thanks to his magic, but the rest of the party struggled to keep up. As the battle raged ahead, more of the party forced their way through the seaweed to come to their friend’s aid. As they did so the queen let go of the rope she was holding, which dropped Sandara and Rosie into the water—where they quickly sunk from sight.

It transpired the queen was a powerful druid. Using her fell magics she froze some of the heroes’ armour and wrought a terrible strike on Fered with a magic harpoon that then returned to her hand. Fered was almost slain by the attack but frenzied—and slightly panicked—healing kept the redoubtable dwarf alive.

By now, the queen’s son had been slain—or at least he had sunk out of sight into the lair’s foul water—and Felik and Kanbrar were fighting and swimming at the same time in the deeper water comprising much of the lair.

Although Kanbrar held the rope attached to Sandara and Rosie, he was in serious trouble. Felik meanwhile was in even worse trouble, surrounded by four grindylow and virtually at death’s door the elf seemed doomed…

  1. Howdy Sir, found a few possible misspellings in the exciting post above “Quickly they conformed they…” did you mean confirmed instead of conformed? and “the party as they snuck passed.” should not passed be past?

Hope you are having a blast!
