Shadowed Keep on the Borderland Retrospective

A couple of years ago, I wrote the Shadowed Keep on the Borderlands as a homage to the Moathouse from T1 The Village of Hommlet (perhaps a perfect low-level adventure). Before I started, I sat down and worked out what I wanted to achieve with the adventure and how I planned to achieve it. These four posts layout my evil scheme:

  1. I am rewriting The Shadowed Keep to reskin it as the same group of players have had memorable characters die in it before. A large rock from atop the tower that smelt of bacon, the snake being save or die in B/X, and the fire trap on the stair cooking the players favorite elf character…
I was looking at it a realized it hasn’t been Collector Edition-ized. Is this on purpose or are ya just too busy with other projects? Is it perfect the way it is? I ask because I really liked what you added to Retribution and The Lonely Coast.

    1. Funny you should say that. As we speak, I am working on a companion town for Shadowed Keep so that the party have somewhere to retreat to rest and recuperate. Once the town’s finished, I might re-release the module as a Collector’s Edition. (I’m also setting the Shadowed Keep in Ashlar so it can have links to a large setting.)

I’ve also been considering another dungeon/cavern level accessible from the room with the gelatinous cube. I built that in when I wrote the original module just in case I wanted to expand it further.

      1. Creighton, when do you think you will have it ready? I going to be using Shadowed Keep in a sandbox start of next year …
